Alleyton Local Matters

An effort was made last Saturday to elect a board of trustees for school district No 19, which resulted in a failure; consequently it will be the duty of the County Judge to appoint three citizens to serve as trustees for the ensuing year. We are informed by one of the ex-trustees of this school district that there are over seventy children enrolled who are within the scholastic age. It took him about one week to enroll them and a travel of many miles in the hot sun, for which the great State of Texas will pay him less five dollars.

Alleyton School Lots, Building Advertised for Sale

Three lots and the old school building on them are being advertised for sale by act of the Columbus school board. Bids are due by 7:30 p.m. April 13.

A judgment in district court Tuesday cleared title to the land.

In the suit, entitled Columbus Independent school district vs. Gussie Lee Wade and others, the court found that the Methodist church of Columbus Aug. 31, 1923 conveyed Lot 5 Block 52 of Alleyton when it meant to convey Lot 5 in Block 51.

Bids must be for the land and the building together, according to Hollis Massey, school board member. An advertisement for the bids is carried in this issue of The Citizen.
