B. Kahlden Funeral Held Here Aug. 16

Funeral services for Barbara Rose Kahlden, 50 of Weimar were held Tuesday, Aug. 16 from Weimar United Church of Christ, with burial in Masonic Cemetery.

Rev. Ernest Dean officiated, assisted by Rev. Robin Hiatt Reed. Caroline Grohmann, representing Weimar Public Library, presented a special reading.Mrs. Kahlden died Saturday, Aug. 13, at 8:15 p.m. at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Born Sept. 7, 1937, at Aransas Pass, she was the daughter of Bill and Margaret (Brunkenhoefer) Wind. The family moved to Weimar when she was 2. She was married to Gaylon W. Kahlden here on Sept. 16, 1956.

She was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ, the Dorcas Circle, the UCC choir, and Eastern Star. She was a faithful volunteer worker in Weimar Public Library for many years.

Her husband survives her, along with her mother and step-father, Margaret and Ernest Lucko of Weimar, and her father, Bill Wind of Mexia.

Serving as pallbearers were S. Jones, Kenneth Pesak, Robert Klockmann, Leon Kahlden, Robert Pesak and Douglas Pesak.

Kahlden, Eilert Otto

Otto Kahlden Funeral Held Here Sept. 25

Funeral services for Otto Kahlden Sr., 92, of Weimar were held Friday, Sept. 25, from Weimar United Church of Christ, with burial in Masonic Cemetery. Rev. “Skip” Sirnic officiated.

Kahlden, a retired farmer and rancher, died Sept. 22 at 9:20 p.m. in Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Born Nov. 29, 1899, at Holman, he was a son of Charles and Minna (Brandt) Kahlden. He married Sophie Clara Oncken on Nov. 14, 1923, at her parents’ home. His wife died June 5, 1990.

He was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ and Texas Farm Bureau.

Surviving are three sons, Otto E. Kahlden Jr., Kervy Kahlden and Leslie Kahlden, all of Weimar; one daughter, Laverne K. Wilson of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Erna Klockmann and Lillie M. Freis, both of Weimar; and one brother, Werner Kahlden of Columbus. A son, two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.

Serving as pallbearers were James Kahlden, Paul Oncken, Wayne McDonald, Dr. Fred H. Wilson III, Daniel Wilson, Robert Klockmann, Jeffrey Kahlden and Kevin Kahlden. Named honorary pallbearers were Roy Kahlden and Lawrence DiFilippo.

Kahlden, Emil

Ex-Businessman Emil Kahlden Expires at 70

Emil Kahlden, 70, car salesman and former garage owner here, died Monday morning, Jan. 14, of a heart attack at his home.  He had not been ill.

Funeral services were held January 17 from Hubbard Funeral chapel with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating.  Burial was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Kahlden was born at Osage on Jan. 6, 1904, a son of Charles and Mina Brandt Kahlden, and married Meta Berger here Oct. 22, 1924.

He lived in this area all his life.  A former employee of Brasher Motor Co., he operated his own repair garage for several years and in recent years had operated a used car lot.

He was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ and for more than 20 years an active member of the Weimar Fire Department.

Mr. Kahlden is survived by his wife, Mrs. Meta Kahlden; one son, Elliott Kahlden of Texas City; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Guenther and Mrs. Geraldine Ulbricht of Houston and Mrs. Waldine Mozisek of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren; his 98-year-old mother, Mrs. Mina Kahlden of Weimar; five brothers, Otto and Arthur Kahlden of Weimar, Hugo of Schulenburg, Werner and Bill of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Chollett of Dickinson and Mrs. Lillie Freis of Weimar.  A son, Franklin (Butch) died in 1966.

Pallbearers were Daniel Ulbricht, Ed Klosel, Rafael Veselka, Johnny Heger, Willie Jurecka, and Rudy Jasek.

Kahlden, Franklin 'Butch'

Final Rites for 'Butch' Kahlden Held Thursday

Funeral services for Franklin ('Butch') Kahlden were held at Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael's Church Thursday, April 28, a week before he would have observed his 21st birthday.

Rev. Albert Hubertus officiated. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Young Kahlden died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in Youens Hospital, where he had been admitted as a patient earlier that same day, of leukemia. He had been ill 16 months but up and around until a day or so before entering the hospital. In January a year ago he had been critically ill for several days after undergoing a heart operation.

Born in Weimar May 5, 1945,he was a son of Emil and Meta Berger Kahlden. He attended St. Michael's School and Weimar High School and lived here all his life except for about 6 months when he was working in Houston.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Johnny (Gladys) Guenther and Mrs. Nolan (Geraldine) Ulbricht of Houston and Mrs. J. C. (Waldine) Mozisek of San Antonio; a brother, Elliott Kahlden of Texas City and his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Kahlden of Weimar.

Pallbearers were E. J. Haldusek, Paul Oncken, Thomas Hudec, Steve Rabel, Leslie Kahlden and Jim Pat Berger.

Kahlden, Gaylon Wayne

G. W. Kahlden Funeral Services Held October 22

Gaylon Wayne Kahlden, 74, of Weimar, died Oct. 19 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct 22 at Hubbard Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Carpenter officiating. Interment followed at the Weimar Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Kahlden was born Aug. 16, 1930 in Colorado County to Hugo and Ida (Ahlgrim) Kahlden.

He attended Weimar High School and served in the Army from 1952-1954 in Germany. He was married to Barbara Wind.

He worked in general maintenance and lived in this area all his life. He was also a member of the VFW, Weimar Masonic Lodge and Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by a sister, Gloria Roth of Lake Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hugo and Ida Kahlden, his wife Barbara and one brother, Leon Kahlden.

Pallbearers were Ethan Kahlden, Leslie Kahlden, Kervy Kahlden, Sunny Vornsand, Glen Hairell, Dean Berger and honorary pallbearer Otto E. Kahlden.

Kahlden, Hugo Hans

Hugo Kahlden Funeral Held Here Saturday

Funeral services for Hugo Hans Kahlden, 85, of Weimar were held Saturday, Feb. 21, from Weimar United church of Christ, with Rev. Ernest Dean officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.

Kahlden, a farmer and lifetime resident of the area, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Born here Aug. 5, 1901, he was the son of Charles and Minna (Brandt) Kahlden. He married Ida Ahlgrim here on Dec. 21, 1921. He was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ.

She survives, along with two sons, Leon and Gaylon of Weimar, one daughter, Gloria Roth of Lake Jackson; one grandson, Leonard Kahlden and two great-grandchildren, Patrick and Jennifer Kahlden; three brothers, Otto Kahlden of Weimar, Werner and Arthur Kahlden of Columbus and two sisters, Erna Klockmann and Lillie Freis of Weimar. Two brothers, Emil Kahlden and Robert W. Kahlden and one sister, Martha Chollett, preceded him in death.

Serving as pallbearers were George Teltschik, James Tobola, Ernest Lucko, Wilbert Heger, Robert Klockmann and Otto Elroy Kahlden.

Funeral Services Held for Ida Kahlden Aug. 1

Ida Kahlden, 97, of Weimar died July 30, at Colorado –Fayette Medical Center.

Mrs. Kahlden was born Nov. 15, 1900 to August and Caroline Staffeldt Ahlgrim at Shaws Bend.

She married Hugo Kahlden on Dec. 21, 1921 in Weimar.

She was a housewife and a farmer and lived in this area for 76 years.

Funeral services were held on Aug 1 from Hubbard Funeral Home, with Rev. Skip Sirnic officiating. Interment followed in the Masonic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Otto Kahlden, Kervy Kahlden, Allen Kahlden, Melvin Stancik, Robert Klockman and Glen Klockman.

Survivors include: two sons, Leon Kahlden and wife Leona of Weimar; Gaylon Kahlden of Weimar; one daughter, Gloria Roth and husband Oscar of Lake Jackson; one grandson, Leonard Kahlden and three great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick and Ethan Kahlden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Kahlden, Leon August

Leon Kahlden Funeral Services Held April 28

Leon August Kahlden, 79, of Weimar, died April 26 at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 28 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father John Bily officiating. Interment followed at St. Michael's Cemetery.

Mr. Kahlden was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Osage to Hugo and Ida Ahlgrim Kahlden. He married Leona Elstner Kahlden on Nov. 11, 1945 at St. Michael's Rectory.

He was an oil field service owner for eight years and worked in the gravel pit for 20 years. He lived in this area all his life.

Mr. Kahlden is survived by his wife, Leona, of Weimar; one son, Leonard Wayne Kahlden of Weimar; siblings, Gloria Ann Roth of Lake Jackson and Gaylon Wayne Kahlden of Weimar; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Alfred John Elstner, Patrick Kahlden, James Shupak, Thomas Barcak, Glenn Hairell and Dean Berger.

Lillian Vasut Kahlden

Lillian Vasut Kahlden, 95, of Columbus, passed away Feb. 27 at River Oaks Health Care Center in Columbus.

She was born in La Grange, Aug. 7, 1914 to Frank F. and Carolina (Foyt) Vasut and married Arthur Raymond Kahlden, Sept. 18, 1934.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Willie Mae Skalitsky, Sylvia L. Richter, Carrie Zapp and Ellen Vasut; brothers, Dennis Wasut, Eddie M. Vasut, Walter Vasut, Leslie Vasut, Harry Vasut, Fred Vasut; and an infant brother.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Warren Dahn of New Braunfels; sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey R. and Elizabeth Kahlden of Seguin and Lawrence A. and Vita Kahlden Sr. of Shreveport, La.; brother, Clarence Wasut and wife Beatrice of Park; sister-in-law, Dorothy Vasut of Columbus; grandchildren, Kathrine Kahlden, Law-rence Kahlden Jr. and wife Gloria, Barry Kahlden and wife Tammy, Shelly Harbin and husband Coy, Wade Dahn and wife Katie; and great-grandchildren, Drake Dahn, Gillian Dahn, Zachary Harbin, Rhett Kahlden and Berend Kahlden.

Funeral services took place March 1 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Deacon Bennie Holesovsky officiating. Interment followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were Johnny Richter, Brent Haynes, Kervy Kahlden, Herman Eichhorn, Donald Richter and Leslie Kahlden

Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Kahlden Jr., Barry Kahlden, Wade Dahn, Coy Harbin and Norris Janak.

Kahlden, Mary (Frers)

Funeral for Mary Kahlden Held June 14

Funeral services for Mary Frers Kahlden, 82, of Rt. 1, Columbus were held Thursday, June 14, from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Columbus, with burial in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.  Pastor Sharon Burns officiated.

Mrs. Kahlden died Tuesday, June 12, at Columbus Community Hospital, where she had been a patient for three days.

Born April 1, 1908, in the Wildwood community northeast of Weimar, she was a daughter of George and Annie (Hlozek) Frers.  She was married to Werner G. Kahlden on Dec. 9, 1925, and they settled in Columbus.

Her husband survives her, along with two daughters, Dorothy Zinkula of Lufkin and Helen Hammack of Columbus; two sons, Quinton Kahlden and Allen Kahlden, both of Columbus; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter Frers of Columbus.  A brother, George Frers Jr., and two sons-in-law, William J. Mazac and Allen Hammack Sr., preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were Mike Evans, Jimmy Smith, Mark Conway, Thomas Kahlden, Dwight Mazac, Ronnie Aschenbeck, Duane Hammack and David Mazac.

Kahlden, Meta (Berger)

Meta Kahlden Funeral Held Here March 29

Funeral services for Meta Kahlden, 82, of Weimar were held Wednesday, March 29, from St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery.  Rev. John Bily officiated.

Mrs. Kahlden, a lifelong Weimar resident, died of cancer March 26 at 9 p.m. at Parkview Manor nursing home.

Born Dec. 8, 1906, she was a daughter of Franz and Maria (Richter) Berger.  She was married to Emil Kahlden here on Oct. 22, 1924.  He died Jan. 14, 1974.  Mrs. Kahlden was employed in St. Michael School’s cafeteria for 29 years.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Surviving her are three daughters.  Gladys Guenther and Geraldine Ulbricht of Houston and Waldine Mozisek of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Elliott Kahlden of Texas City; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were a son, Franklin (Butch) Kahlden, who died in 1966, seven brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers were Glenn Kahlden, Bobby Kahlden, Kenneth Guenther, Michael Guenther, Paul Guenther, Patrick Guenther and Mark Ulbricht.

Kahlden, Minna Johanna (Brandt)

Mrs. M. Kahlden Expires at 98

Funeral services for Mrs. Minna Johanna Kahlden, who died at her home at 7:15 a.am. Friday, April 5, at the age of 98, were held Sunday from Weimar United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robt. N. Crawford officiating.

Mrs. Kahlden, a native of Oldenburg, Germany, had lived in the Weimar area for 86 years. Born February 18, 1876, she was the daughter of Eilert and Wilhelmine Brandt, who brought her here as a child and were among the earliest settlers of the area north of Weimar.

She was married to Charlie Kahlden on January 3, 1899, and they lived at Holman two years before moving to Osage section, where they had lived since. Mr. Kahlden died in 1964. A son, Emil, and two infants also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kahlden is survived by five sons, Otto of Weimar, Hugo of Schulenburg, and Werner, R. W. and Arthur of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Erna Klockmann of La Grange, Mrs. Martha Chollett of Dickinson and Mrs. Lillie Freis of Weimar; 30 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Kervy Kahlden, Gaylon Kahlden, Glenn Klockmann, Wilbert Heger, Harvey Kahlden and Allen Kahlden.

Kahlden, Quinton Kent

Kahlden

Quinton Kent Kahlden, 79, of Columbus passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Columbus Community Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1928 to Werner George and Mary Helen Kahlden in Columbus where he remained a lifetime resident and worked as a self-employed farmer and rancher. He married Elsie Otto Kahlden on Oct. 25, 1953. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, Woodmen of the World and Frelsburg Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Zinkula.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Kahlden of Columbus; daughters and sons-in-laws, Valerie and husband Jimmy Smith of Columbus; Suzanne and husband Mark Conway of Harlingen and Elizabeth "Beth" and husband William "Billy" Herchek of Columbus; sisters: Helen Hammack of Columbus; brother; Allen Kahlden of Columbus; grandchildren: Amber Kutach and husband Steve, Lance Smith and wife Daniela, Caitlin Conway, Mallorie Smith, Clayton Smith, Jonathan Conway, Emily Herchek and Evan Herchek; great grandchildren: Wyatt and Morgyn Kutach and Kallyn Caviness; and two step-great grandchildren; Pres-ton and Jordan Kutach.

Funeral services took place on Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Jeffrey Marsh officiating. [Interment in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery]

Pallbearers included Lance Smith, Clayton Smith, Jonathan Conway, Steve Kutach, Dwight Mazac, David Mazac, Ronnie Aschenbeck and William "Billy" Herchek.

Honorary pallbearers were the Columbus High School class of 1946.

Kahlden

Werner G. Kahlden, 98, of Columbus, passed away Aug. 6 at the Columbus Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Feb. 6, 1906 to Charlie and Wilhelmina Kahlden and married Mary Frers Dec. 9, 1925. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Dorothy Zinkula; brothers, Emil, Otto, Hugo, Willie and Arthur Kahlden; sisters, Martha Chollett and Ema Klockman; and sons-in-law, William Mazac and Allen Hammack.

He is survived by his sons, Quinton Kahlden and wife, Elsie of Columbus and Allen Kahlden and wife, Bernice of Columbus; daughter, Helen Hammack of Columbus; son-in-law, George Zinkula of Lufkin; sister, Lilie Fries[sic] of Osage Community near Weimar; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Aug. 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Bill Mosley officiating. Interment followed at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were Mike Evans, Thomas Kahlden, Mark Parks, Lance Smith, William Herchek, Dwight Mazac, David Mazac and Ronnie Aschenbeck.

Little Kahlden Boy Claimed by Death

Two children of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kahlden of the Osage section were taken ill with a severe attack of dysentery a few days ago. Thursday of last week, their condition became so serious it was deemed best to take them to a hospital. An ambulance came over from LaGrange and the two little boys ere taken to the hospital there for treatment.

Everything possible was done for them; but despite this the oldest boy, Wilbur, died early Friday night. The remains were brought to Weimar and said to rest in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery Sunday afternoon, Rev. Paul Piepenbrok, Lutheran minister, officiating. Wilbur's age at time of death was 5 years, 1 month and 10 days.

The other little fellow was brought home, accompanied by a trained nurse from the LaGrange hospital, Miss Hilda Wolle, and is said to be getting along very nicely.

The heartfelt sympathy of all our people goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Kahlden in their misfortune.
