Gonzales, Juan

Eagle Lake, Jan. 3. --This morning about 4 o’clock Dennis Montana shot and killed Juan Gonzales. The parties are both Mexicans and brothers-in-law. Montana used a double-barreled shotgun and fired only one shot. The load struck Gonzales in the right eye and tore a gaping wound in the side of his head. The dead Mexican had lived here for some years.

Montana when he fired the fatal shot hurried to the residence of City Marshal H. S. Vineyard and waking up the officer surrendered. He stated that he had fired at Gonzales, but he did not know whether he had killed him or not. Mr. Vineyard, after taking charge of the Mexican, wired Sherif Bruce Mayes of Columbus, who came down and took the man to the county jail. [Place of interment unknown]
