COMMENTS: After Mary Ann died, John married Rebecca and started a new
family. On the 1880 census, his household looks like an army barracks.
John and Rebecca took in the Loe/Lowe and Bratton grandchildren who
had been orphaned. The house had two stories, my great grandmother,
Mary Elizabeth Lowe, slept in an upstairs bedroom. At one time, John
operated a ferry across the Colorado River. With failing health, in the
1880's, John moved his family to Jones County in wagons along with his
cattle.
