COMMENTS: John Hope brought his family to Alachua County, FL, either just before or during the Second Seminole War. He may have been a Lieutenant in the Florida Mounted Militia, if so, he only served one six month enlistment. In 1840, he deserted his family and went to Colorado County. His family later came to Colorado County, probably with the Suggs family. Jerusha filed for divorce and married Thomas Ware. John began marrying all the available women in the city of Columbus. He had bought the biggest and best hotel in town and had a never ending supply of fresh wives.
