FRIEDERICH HENRY THUMANN FAMILY Friederich Henry Thumann was born February 9, 1836. Place of birth, Detmold, Lippe, Germany. He married Sophie Louise Bunte in Germany. They had three children, two daughters, Sophie Louise and Wilhelmina, one son, Fritz and twins but they were still born, Friederich's wife Sophie Louise died in 1878 in Germany. The children were placed an orphanage until he and Anna Schmand married October 7, 1880 In Germany. Anna was born July 15, 1856 in Casel, Germany. They decided to move to the United States. Friederich came alone in 1882 via ship to Galveston, Texas. He settled in the Oakland/Content area. He saved enough money to send for his family, wife Anna and the four children, they arrived in Texas the year 1883. Friederich and Anna had seven children, Henry was born in Germany the other six, Charlie, Otto, Hugo, Oscar, Emma and Annie were born in Texas. Friederich was a farmer and highly respected in the area. (see obituary) He received his Final Naturalization papers the seventh day of March,1892 #5, District Court, County of Colorado, Texas. He was accompanied by U.S. citizens, Sam H. Rees, C .J. Oncken and District Clerk L. L. Harrison. Friederich died December 19, 1919 in his home. His widow Anna sold their home and then resided with their children periodically. She died June 28, 1937.Friederich and Anna were of the Lutheran faith, they are both buried in the New Bielau cemetery. Submitted by Leona Mitchell |
